China's official Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday vowed to improve cooperation with South Africa's Independent Media and India's Outlook magazine.
The pledge came during meetings between Xinhua Editor-in-chief He Ping and leaders of the two foreign news organizations.
He thanked Karema Brown, executive editor of Independent Media, and Krishna Prasad, editor-in-chief of Outlook magazine, for their support to the first BRICS Media Summit held in Beijing on Tuesday.
When meeting with Brown, He said China and South Africa, as emerging economies, cooperate closely within the BRICS framework and Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
"Media in the two countries should report China-Africa relations in line with sincerity and affinity," he said, encouraging both sides to share their experience in adapting to new technology and the Internet.
Brown said Independent Media is increasing its use of Xinhua stories, particularly those about President Xi Jinping's ongoing visit to Africa, to explain China's position and its cooperation with the continent.
When meeting with Prasad, He said China and India are neighbors with large populations and grand civilizations, and the two must understand each other better.
He called on Xinhua and Outlook magazine to maintain cooperation within the BRICS media summit framework and contribute to friendship and trust between the two nations.
Prasad said the summit is a good start for media cooperation among BRICS countries and praised Xinhua's efforts to strengthen goodwill between India and China.
Prasad called for more media cooperation and sending more reporters to each other's countries.
The first BRICS media summit, launched and hosted by Xinhua, attracted leaders from more than 25 media organizations in BRICS countries. Endi
