2 Egyptians killed in air strikes in Libya

Xinhua, November 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two Egyptians were killed in air strikes in the Libyan northern city of Ajdabiya, Egypt's foreign ministry said in a statement late on Thursday.

Some local media reported that the air strikes were carried during an exchange of bombing between the Libyan forces and the rebels near the site of the two Egyptians working site.

"The Egyptian embassy in Libya will finalize the proceedings of transporting the bodies from Ajdabiya Hospital to Cairo as soon as the military operations in this area are over," foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zaid said.

Libya has been seeing a growing insurgency by different rebel groups and militias since the overthrow of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.

Cairo has renewed its warning to all the Egyptians still living in Libya to return home. Egypt has a large community, nearly 1.6 million, mostly low-educated craftsmen and technicians, in Libya.

Egypt carried air strikes against the Islamic State militants after the group beheaded 20 Coptics in Libya in February.

Since then, Egypt has evacuated thousands of its nationals via Tunis-Libyan-Egyptian borders. Enditem
