Slovak gov't approves package of anti-terrorism legislation

Xinhua, November 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Slovak Cabinet at an extraordinary session on Friday approved a package of anti-terrorism legislation as Slovakia's response to the security situation in Europe.

"The package contains amendments to the Constitution and to various other laws. The measures are aimed at strengthening Slovakia's security and the powers of the authorities concerned to fight terrorism," explained Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Additionally, the number of police patrols have been increased from 450 to 1,200, with around 2,400 police officers involved.

"The increases should take place within two years," Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak said.

Fico noted that the package of measures is due to be debated in the Parliament via a fast-track legislative procedure. "It means that the whole package could be approved during the course of next week," added Fico. Endit
