New Hollywood sci-fi film Aliens to be filmed in Australia

Xinhua, November 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Aliens are invading Australia!

Well that's what people will think when the next instalment of the popular sci-fi Hollywood Aliens franchise, Aliens: Covenant, is filmed in Australia from mid-march 2016.

Michael Fassbender will reprise his role from Prometheus (2012), with the latest blockbuster flick touted as the movie's sequel to address unanswered questions left open at the conclusion of the first film.

Announcing the news in Sydney on Friday, acclaimed director Ridley Scott said he loved Australia and its people after directing Aussie actor Russell Crowe, though the pair famously clashed during the filming of Gladiator.

"We're now friends. On the first one we weren't friends but by now we're really, we're kind of buddies, so I think I understand Aussies and the marvellous Cate Blanchett," Scott said.

Scott started scouting filming locations on Thursday for areas with monumental forests and rocks, while the rest will be made in studio using computer-generated imagery (CGI), employing a local crew of 600.

The Hollywood sci-fi flick is due to hit theatres in October 2017. Endit
