Guingamp nip 1-0 win over Ajaccio for French League Cup last 16 spot

Xinhua, November 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Guingamp made through into the last 16 of the French League Cup after a 1-0 victory at Ajaccio on Wednesday with an extra-time goal.

The only goal of their replayed clash came on 103 minutes when Sloan Privat slammed home his fifth goal of the season to ensure a 1-0 win for Guingamp, who next play Nice in the round of 16.

Ajaccio and Guingmap's previous encounter at the Stade Ange Casanova on October 28 was called off at 2-2 due to heavy rain in Corsica.

Yannis Salibur came agonizingly close to steering home a tiebreaker for the visitors, but his free-kick span in the 21st minute just wide of the post.

Nicolas Benezet was the next to test the Ajaccio defence, but the shot from the Bretons'summer signing fizzed past the upright at 36.

The hosts' best chance came just after the break, Kevin Mayi found the power, but not the accuracy, to test Jonas Lossl in the Guingamp goal after finding space in the visitors' box.

It was Guingamp, however, who were in control of the game in the second half as Thibault Giresse tried his luck at 53 and substitute Mana Dembele saw his goal ruled out for offside on 90 minutes. Endi
