River Plate, Huracan to vie for Copa Sudamericana final berth

Xinhua, November 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Argentina's first division sides Huracan and River Plate will meet on Thursday for the second leg of their Copa Sudamericana semifinal.

Huracan will go into the match with the advantage after winning the first leg 1-0 away from home in the Monumental Stadium.

Thursday's match will take place in the Huracan's Tomas Adolfo Duco Stadium with kick-off at 20:45 local time (23:45 GMT). Brazilian Sandro Ricci will referee the match.

River Plate, the current defending champions of the tournament and one of the top teams at club level in the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), will come into the match needing a win to advance to the final.

Whatever happens, River, coached by Marcelo Gallardo, also have in mind the FIFA Club World Cup which will take place in Japan in December. The team from Buenos Aires will enter the tournament in the semifinals and if they win, they could go on to face Spain's Barcelona in the final.

In Thursday's match, River have stated that Uruguayan Carlos Sanchez will be their main midfielder despite Sanchez announced that he will leave the club from Dec. 31 to play for Monterrey in Mexico.

Huracan come into the match calmer after saving themselves from relegation in the Argentinian league and with the illusion of reaching their first ever international final.

If River manage to defeat Huracan, it will be the team's third consecutive international final after winning the Copa Sudamericana in 2014 and the Copa de Libertadores de America in 2015. Winning the Copa Libertadores was important for the team as it was the first time they won the title in 19 years.

The other semifinal will be played in Colombia where Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe take on Paraguay's Sportivo Luqueno. The first leg in Paraguay ended in a 1-1 draw. Endi
