Portugal's National Fado Museum to offer largest sound database

Xinhua, November 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Portugal's National Fado Museum in capital Lisbon announced on Wednesday the launching of the Digital Archive of Fado, an online database of fado music to be available in the near future.

"Very soon will be available the Digital Archive of Fado, a database online, integrating the largest national historic sound file," said the Fado Museum.

The announcement comes two days before the celebration of the fourth anniversary of the Fado designated as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

New to the Fado Museum is a virtual map of Fado that offers information about fado music from around the world, including a roadmap listing the city's fado houses and other points of interest related to the music of Portugal.

On Friday evening the museum will present music from Album de Familia, Aurelio Vasques, followed by a fado session by Raquel Rodrigues and Marcos Rodrigues, both of whom have been awarded the Amalia Rodrigues Revelation for their contribution to fado music.

Distinguished fado singer Carlos do Carmo who won a Latin Grammy last year will perform at the Mercado da Ribeira in Lisbon with artist Adir.

On Nov. 27, 2011 in Bali, Indonesia, the UNESCO organization declared Fado music an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Fado Museum was inaugurated on Sept. 25, 1998 and is devoted to the Fado music and Portuguese guitar. Endit
