The committee to prepare for holding the Palestinian National Council (PNC), the parliament of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), has invited both Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements to join.
The committee, which convened in Ramallah on Wednesday and was chaired by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said in a press statement, declared by Speaker of the PNC Salim Za'noon, calling on all Palestinian factions to join.
"We are calling on all Palestinian factions to join the preparations for holding the PNC depending on our concerns to achieve full Palestinian unity and end all the reasons that caused an internal division," said Za'noon.
He went on saying that the Palestinian factions agree on the basic principles, mainly the establishment of the independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with east Jerusalem as its capital.
"Resolving all the final status issues have to be based on the international resolutions related to the Palestinian cause, including the issues of refugees and the release of the prisoners," said Za'noon.
The committee decided to keep its meetings open-ended to finalize all the procedures needed for holding a session for the PNC with the participation of all Palestinian factions, including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.
On Sept. 9, Za'noon announced that a session for the PNC was postponed, adding that postponing the PNC session for another three month was to finalize all the preparations for it.
Meanwhile, the committee slammed the Israeli measures and practices against the Palestinians, adding that "Israel defends its settlement and its military occupation, while our people defend their right for independence and freedom."
Since early October, 97 Palestinians were killed in a flaring wave of tension and violent confrontations between Israel and the Palestinians, the Palestinian health ministry said.
In the meantime, 19 Israelis were killed in a series of shooting and stabbing attacks carried out by Palestinians in protest to the Israeli practices and measures. Endit
