Regular freight trains link E. China, Rotterdam

Xinhua, November 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Regular freight trains have been arranged to shuttle between east China's Nanchang and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, local authorities announced Wednesday.

The first train headed for Rotterdam on Tuesday carrying 48 carriages of solar wafers from a local manufacturer. The journey of more than 12,000 kilometers takes about 17 days, passing through Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany.

Compared to sea freight, the railway saves 28 days for cargo transport between the two cities. It is also cheaper than air transport by more than 50 percent, said Li Ke, chief of the provincial land port of entry office.

The regular trains will enable the efficient, fast and safe passage of goods between cities in China, central Asia and Europe, Li said, adding that it also supports the Belt and Road initiative. Endi
