1st LD Writethru: Protestors surround Turkish Embassy in Moscow

Xinhua, November 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hundreds of angry protestors gathered in front of Turkish Embassy in Moscow to demonstrate their rage over the downing of a Russian Su-24 warplane, which was shot down by Turkish air force on Tuesday.

Over 600 Russians had already rallied around the embassy on Tuesday evening, holding posters writing "stab in the back," "not going to Turkey" and so on. The protest has lasted for one and a half hours, with Russian policemen maintaining order at the scene.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry lodged a strong protest to the Turkish ambassador in Moscow over the incident, while Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia would accordingly reassess and revise Russian-Turkish relations.

A Russian Su-24 warplane was shot down by Turkish air force on Tuesday as Ankara claimed the aircraft violated Turkish airspace.

Turkey said two of its F-16 fighters took action after ten warnings against the Su-24 while Russia has claimed that its bomber posed no threat to Turkey and had not intruded Turkey's airspace.

Russia is taking urgent measures to ensure the safety of Russian pilots and aircraft in Syria.

The Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday the deployment of new-generation S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile system in Syria, while Moskva guard missile cruiser was ready in new combat duty position near Syria's Latakia port "to destroy any air target of potential danger to Russian aircraft." Endi
