Cyprus expels six people suspected of being connected to terrorism

Cyprus expelled six people overnight on suspicion that they are connected with radical movements, police said on Wednesday.

A police said the six foreign nationals were sent back to the country of origin after authorities received information that they are involved with extremist groups.

He did not reveal their nationality, but said that they were put on a flight to the city they traveled from, Basel in Switzerland.

Police said the six, aged between 25 and 32, are French speaking. Five are of Turkish origin and one of Algerian origin.

The spokesman said they were intercepted on arrival within the context of increased security measures following the Nov. 13 Paris attacks.

"They were questioned by the Cyprus police, who alerted Europol and Interpol," the spokesman said.

They maintained that they came in Cyprus for tourism, but the police said they secured information that they are connected to terrorist organizations. Endit
