Three Russian journalists in Syria were injured Monday after an anti-tank missile exploded next to their car, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
"Currently, the whole group is back at the Hmeimim airbase (where a Russian airforce group for anti-terrorist strikes is located) and are receiving qualified medical aid," an online ministry statement said.
The group was driving towards frontline positions of the Syrian army near the locality of Al-Dagmashliya in Latakia province northwest of Syria, it said.
Latakia province is one of the key areas in Syria that attracted most Russian airstrikes in order to help Syrian government troops there to fight the Islamic State (IS) and other militant groups.
RT (Russia Today) TV channel identified two of the injured as its correspondents Roman Kosarev and Sargon Lataya. The third, Alexander Yelistratov, was a TASS news agency correspondent.
Kosarev has been shell-shocked, while Lataya and Kosarev had to undergo surgery at the airbase and are now out of danger, according to RT, adding that all the reporters in the group were equipped with blue bulletproof vests with Press signs on them. Endi
