Albanian, Macedonian police to cooperate on counter-terrorism measures

Albanian and Macedonian state police Saturday agreed to further boost law enforcement and security cooperation in face of current situation and the global terror threats, according to Albanian Telegraphic Agency.

Albanian State Police chief, Haki Cako, Saturday held a meeting in the Albanian southern city of Vlora, with the Macedonia's Public Security Bureau director, Gorance Savovski, to discuss on counter-terrorism measures, the fight against organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, illegal migration, cooperation between the neighboring states through bilateral and international information exchange and a number of security issues.

The meeting between top police officials took place in the framework of the earlier meetings on the cooperation between the police and law enforcement agencies of the two neighboring countries, Albanian State Police declared in a press release.

They also stressed the importance of the cooperation among regional police services, notably in the field of cross-border cooperation and joint participation in regional and global initiatives.

The two countries explored ways to establish joint investigative teams, information exchange on individuals suspected of involvement in organized crime activities, especially the illicit trafficking in drugs and weapons and cross-border crime, concluded the press release of the Albanian State Police.
