UN chief hails peace, stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday congratulated Bosnia and Herzegovina on its consolidation of peace and political stability, as well as on its socio-economic progress achieved since the Dayton Peace Accord was reached 20 years ago.

On this momentous occasion, Ban encouraged the people, government and all institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue their efforts to strengthen rule of law and lay the conditions for a lasting and meaningful reconciliation in the country, Ban said in a statement.

The United Nations remains committed to continue supporting the people and government of Bosnia and Herzegovina in their efforts to build a truly multi-ethnic society as well as a peaceful and prosperous future, Ban said.

The Dayton Peace Accord was signed in Paris in 1995 to end three-and-a-half years of war in the Balkans. It laid a foundation for a sovereign Bosnia and Herzegovina. Endi
