Xinhua, November 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

A district police chief, along with a civilian, was killed in a bomb attack in western province of Badghis on Saturday, the latest in a string of targeted attacks in the country, police said.

"An improvised bomb attached to a motorcycle was detonated near the Jawand District police station. The blast came when the district police chief, Faizullah Khan, was leaving the office. The attack caused Khan and a passerby killed," Abdul Rauf, provincial police chief, told Xinhua.

Four police personnel were also wounded by the blast which took place round evening, the police chief said, blaming the Taliban insurgent group for the attack.

The security forces have launched a massive manhunt in the area to nab the culprits behind the incident, he noted.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid April when the militant group launched its annual rebel offensive.

Military personnel, civilians considered to be supporting government, government employees, religious leaders, tribal elders and persons involved in peace and reconciliation efforts came under attack in targeted killings. Enditem
