Myanmar formed a trilateral Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) to implement the political dialogue between the government and ethnic armed groups, the Myanmar Peace Center said on Saturday.
The 16-member UPDJC comprises 9 representatives from political parties, including the National League for Democracy (NLD), Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), Arakan National Party (ANP) and Shan National League for Democracy (SNLD) among others.
Meanwhile, the union-level Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JCMC) was created to implement the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA) signed by the government and eight ethnic armed groups on Oct. 15.
The JCMC, led by Lt. Gen Yar Pyae, was established with 10 representatives each from the government and eight ethnic armed groups as well as six civilian representatives, according to the government's Union Peace Making Work Committee (UPWC).
Drafting of the dialogue framework is expected to be able to start before Dec. 14, according to the ceasefire accord and the formal dialogue is expected to start before Jan. 14, 2016.
The peace process aims to bring in seven non-signatory groups to sign the ceasefire deal.
The Myanmar government and eight ethnic armed groups out of 15 signed the NCA on Oct. 15, agreeing on some post-ceasefire steps. Endit
