Israeli forces on Saturday raided and shut down a Palestinian radio station in the West Bank city of Hebron, accusing it of "incitement" against Israel, the second such case in less than a month.
Amjad Shawar, manager of "Hebron radio," told Xinhua that Israeli soldiers raided the station and handed them an order to close it for six months.
The Palestinian Ministry of Information strongly condemned the Israeli measure, considering it a "terrorist act against media and press that aims to cover up for the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people."
In a press statement, the ministry demanded an international intervention to end Israel's targeting of journalists and provide them with protection based on international resolutions.
The Israeli army spokesperson said that the radio was closed for "inciting violence."
The spokesperson confirmed in statements to the Israeli public radio that the broadcast equipment were seized.
On Nov. 3, the Israeli army shut down "Al-Hurriah" radio in Hebron for six months after raiding the station, citing similar accusations of "incitement."
A wave of violence has flared up since early October claiming the lives of 91 Palestinians who were killed in clashes with the Israeli army or in alleged stabbing attacks in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
In return, 17 Israelis were killed in stabbing and running over attacks carried out by Palestinians. Endit
