International visits to Britain up, earnings down

The number of international visits to Britain in the last 12 months to September rose by three percent to 35.2 million, Britain's Office for National Statistics(ONS) said Friday.

However, the earnings decreased two percent to 21.6 billion pounds( 32.88 billion U.S. dollars) during this period.

Statistics showed visits from North America and Europe were up by six percent and three percent respectively, but visits from other countries fell by one percent.

In terms of purposes of visits, business trips grew seven percent, holiday visits by one percent and visits to friends or relatives by four percent, according to ONS.

Meanwhile, ONS on Friday also revealed the number of Britons visits to abroad. There were 64.2 million visits to abroad by British residents in the 12 months to September 2015, eight percent higher than a year earlier.

Britons' expenditure on those visits increased to 37.4 billion pounds, up six percent from a year earlier. Endit
