ASEAN FMs call for self-restraint in South China Sea

Foreign ministers of the 10-member Association of the South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Friday renewed their call for self-restraint among all parties in the South China Sea.

The ministers reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, security, stability and freedom of navigation in and over the South China Sea, said Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Anifah Aman, who chaired the Political-Security Council Meeting at the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

"The ministers remained seriously concerned and urged all parties to exercise self-restraint," Anifah said at a press conference.

The ministers stressed the urgent need to strengthen the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea in its entirety as well as the expeditious establishment of an effective code of conduct. Enditem
