China's weightlifter Lv aims for grand slam at worlds

Xinhua, November 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

World champion Lv Xiaojun of China aims to challenge a new world record on clean and jerk in the men's 77kg, fulfilling a grand slam in the category with snatch and total point reords in hand at the world weightlifting championships in Houston slated for Nov. 20-29.

Taking the world championships as a rehearsal for next year's Rio Olympics, China dispatched eight weightlifters to compete in six categories, giving up the men's 105kg and above.

31-year-old Lv, who broke the record of snatch at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and also made the total point world record of 380 kilograms, is regarded as the most powerful lifter in the category. What's in his mind in Houston is to break the clean and jerk world record of 210 kilograms held by Russia's Oleg Perepetchenov.

Shu Ying, Lv's arch rival and also a teammate, will help China to make it a double security in the weight classification.

Long Qingquan, Beijing Olympics champion, and Wu Jingbiao, two-time world champion, will contend for the title of men's 56 kilograms with DPR Korea's Om Yun-chol.  Endi
