Ukraine joins EU's Creative Europe program

Xinhua, November 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukraine has joined the Creative Europe program, a European Union (EU) initiative aimed at supporting cultural projects, the country's Culture Ministry announced Thursday.

"This program will open up new prospects and opportunities for the development of the Ukrainian culture, creative and media industries, as well as audiovisual sector," Ukrainian Culture Minister Viacheslav Kyrylenko told reporters in Kiev.

He said that Ukraine's membership in the initiative will grant the country's artists and cultural professionals an access to the outstanding fund of the program worth 1.5 billion euros (about 1.6 billion U.S. dollars).

Launched in 2014, the Creative Europe program provides financial grants to promote the development of culture and media sectors in the EU's member states and its neighbouring countries.

Ukraine became the seventh neighboring country to join the initiative this year. Enditem
