ASEAN political-security community blueprint fully implemented: Malaysian official

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

A senior Malaysian official said Thursday that the blueprint 2015 of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Political-Security Community (APSC) had been fully implemented.

"The APSC blueprint 2015 has been 100 percent implemented," Malaysian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Othman Hashim told media.

The ASEAN member states look forward to implementing the action lines under the APSC blueprint 2015, said the secretary general whose country takes on the bloc's rotating chair in 2015.

His remarks came shortly after the conclusion of ASEAN's Senior Officials' Preparatory Meeting which was held ahead of the 27th summit of the bloc.

The official also said the meeting also discussed the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and consulted on the Code of Conduct (COC).

The ASEAN political-security community envisages a rules-based community of shared values and norms, a cohesive, peaceful, stable and resilient region with shared responsibility for comprehensive security, and a dynamic and outward-looking region in an increasingly integrated and interdependent world.

The 27th Summit of ASEAN will be held here on Saturday and Sunday with the theme "Our people, Our Community, Our Vision."

Founded in 1967, ASEAN groups Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. It aims to accelerate economic growth, social progress and socio-cultural evolution among its members. Endit
