Moscow court sanctions arrest of suspected organizer of Nemtsov's death

Xinhua, November 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Moscow court issued an arrest warrant for the suspected organizer of the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Wednesday.

Ruslan Mukhudinov, a former officer of the Chechen Republic's Internal Affairs Ministry North battalion, was arrested in absentia, RIA Novosti quoted the Moscow Basmanny District Court judge Natalya Dudar as saying.

Mukhudinov could have fled abroad using a false passport and stayed in hiding in the United Arab Emirates, the judge said.

Mukhudinov's lawyer, Khavash Khadisov, argued that the ruling was based on assumptions and he was going to lodge an appeal.

Mukhudinov, who has been officially charged with murder and arms traffic, has been put on the federal and international wanted lists. With the court's arrest warrant, investigators will be able to request Interpol assistance in finding and detaining the suspect.

Nemtsov, former Russian deputy prime minister and an outspoken critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was shot dead at about midnight on Feb. 27 near the Kremlin at the heart of Moscow, when he was strolling with Anna Duritskaya, a Ukrainian model.

Five suspects in the case have been detained so far, all residents of the Caucasus region, including the alleged murderers, Zaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev, as well as their accomplices Khamzat Bakhayev, Tamerlan Eskerkhanov and Shadid Gubashev. Endi
