Sweden reaches Euro 2016 after defeating Denmark in playoff (Updated)

Sweden qualified for the 2016 European Championship after 2-2 draw with Denmark to clinch a 4-3 aggregate play-off victory at the Parken Stadium here Tuesday.

The Danish team demonstrated high ambition as hosts since the game started. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic put Sweden into the lead in the 19th minute with a bouncing first-time finish into the far corner.

Though Denmark hit back quickly and won a corner in the 22nd minute, the ball was punched away by goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.

The rest of the first half saw the Danes lack of tempo and intensity, and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Sweden at half time.

In the second half, Ibrahimovic took the chance again and scored from a free kick in the 76th minute. Denmark then made a counter attack, whereby Yussuf Poulsen headed in a goal in the 81st minute.

When the game came to 91 minutes, Jannik Vestergaard, a substitute who came on as an auxiliary striker, powered 2n a superb header from Christian Eriksen's corner to earn his team a 2-2 draw.

Denmark last won the UEFA European Championship in 1992, and made it as far as the qualifying round in 2008. Both teams qualify for UEFA Championship 2012. Endit
