Council of Europe condemns attacks in Paris

Xinhua, November 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Council of Europe on Tuesday condemned "in the strongest terms the barbaric attacks" carried out in Paris last Friday, saying it will resolutely continue the fight against terrorism.

Representing the governments of its 47 member states, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe paid homage to the many victims and extended its deepest sympathy to their families and loved ones. It expressed full solidarity with the French people and authorities.

In response to these tragic events and attacks in other member states, the Council of Europe said it was determined to resolutely continue the fight against terrorism in full respect of the principles of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

It reaffirmed its determination to fight against all forms of intolerance and discrimination as well as any acts of violence on religious or any other grounds.

The Council of Europe said it would continue to give the highest priority to the implementation of the action plan to fight against violent extremism and radicalization leading to terrorism adopted in May 2015.

At least 129 people were killed and more than 300 others injured in the Paris attacks on Nov. 13. Endit
