Spain's national football team arrives back in Madrid after match cancelled

Xinhua, November 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spain's national team returned here from Brussels on Tuesday after the friendly game against Belgium scheduled for Tuesday was canceled for safety reasons due to the risk of a terrorist attack.

After the Paris attacks on Friday which left 129 people dead, the Belgian ministry of the interior said there was a real risk of an attack at the match between Spain and Belgium's national teams.

Belgium has raised the country's terror alert from two to three, which is the maximum level, and local media reported citing Belgian sources that one of the terrorist suspects would have been seen around the King Baudouin Stadium.

Also, a bomb alert in a street in Brussels two kilometers away from the hotel where the Spanish team was staying was another reason the match was cancelled. Endit
