1st LD: Turkish acting PM to form new gov't after elections

Xinhua, November 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday assigned acting Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to form a new government, a presidential statement said.

Erdogan gave Davutoglu the mandate to form the 64th government after the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) gained parliamentary majority in the general elections held on Nov. 1.

Davutoglu is expected to name his ministers on Wednesday or Thursday, with the new cabinet likely to be packed with Erdogan loyalists.

The AKP gained 49.4 percent of the votes in the elections and received 316 seats in the 550-member parliament, securing a parliament majority as 98 percent of ballots are counted. Endit
