Uganda rugby Cranes have finished seventh in the qualifiers for the 2016 Olympic Games.
The team handled by ex-Kenyan international Tolbert Onyango fell out to Tunisia at the quarter stage of the main event during the qualifiers that ended in the South African capital Johannesburg on Sunday.
"We played well and qualified from the group stage after beating Zambia and Nigeria. But our team lost 19-14 to Tunisia in the quarterfinal," Ramzy Olinga, the CEO of the Uganda Rugby Union, said on Sunday.
To reach the semifinals, Uganda rugby team silenced Zambia 47-5 in their first game played at the Barnard Stadium, Kempton Park before stopping Nigeria 19-12. They then lost 43-0 to Zimbabwe.
Kenya qualified for the Olympics after they won all their three games in the group stage, beating Madagascar and Morocco in the quarter and semifinals respectively before seeing off Zimbabwe 21-17 in the final.
In the classifications, Uganda was placed seventh out of the 12 nations that took part in. Kenya joins South Africa who had already qualified for the Olympics by finishing second in the 2014-2015 Sevens World Series. Endi
