Merkel to attend Germany's friendly soccer match with Netherlands to show solidarity with Paris

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will attend Germany's friendly soccer match with the Netherlands on Tuesday in order to show her solidarity with the victims of the terror attacks in Paris.

The world championship was at the center of the horrifying scenes Friday night, when at least two explosions were heard near the national stadium Stade de France, where a France-Germany friendly soccer match was being played, attended by French President Francois Hollande.

The German Football Association (DFB) has considered calling off Tuesday's soccer match in Hannover, but decided to still hold the game to send out a clear message against terrorism.

"Yet we all know that it's important to set an example and promote our values and culture," said Germany's team manager Oliver Bierhoff.

DFB's interim president Reinhard Rauball said the message was clear. "We will not let ourselves be intimidated by terrorism," he said.

"Our head coach Joachim Loew and every one of his players deserve respect for this demonstration of solidarity with the victims and the entire French people," Rauball said.

A wave of terrorist attacks rocked the French capital Paris Friday night, killing 129 people and injuring many more. The Islamic State (IS) militant group has claimed responsibility. Endi
