With the 27th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) approaching, Malaysia said Sunday its police has been on alert and at its optimum level of preparedness for possible terror attacks.
The move came as series of deadly terror attacks hit Paris on Friday in which at least 129 people were killed and 352 others injured.
The 27th summit of ASEAN and its related summits will be held here from Nov. 21 to 22. Malaysia is the rotating chairman of ASEAN in 2015.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahamd Zahid Hamidi said that the safety of every leader of the ASEAN member states and dialogue partners is a top priority during the summit.
He said that the police, particularly the Counter Terrorism Division, is on alert for any suspected activities.
"Police have deployed what should be done...give support to our security agencies," he said.
Also on the day, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said that the security control has been tightened at all entry points in the country including airports.
"Malaysia has been on the high alert most of the time and we will continue to do so," he added. Endit
