About 18 Taliban militants were killed in operations carried out by Afghan security forces over the last 24 hours, said the country's Interior Ministry on Sunday.

"In past 24 hours, Afghan National Security Forces conducted several anti-terrorism operations in Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Helmand provinces. As a result 18 militants were killed and six others were arrested by the ANSF," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

The ANSF also found and seized weapons, the statement added.

Earlier on Sunday, the Afghan Defense Ministry confirmed that a total of 12 army personnel lost their lives as a result of separate attacks and roadside bombings across the country since early Saturday.

The Taliban militant group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments. Endite
