Phelps wins trademark 200m IM in Minneapolis

Xinhua, November 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

American swimming super star Michael Phelps won the men's 200-meter individual medley gold at the Minneapolis Pro Swim Series meeting on Saturday.

Phelps, winner of a record 18 Olympic gold medals, failed to win the 100m and 200m fly on the first two days of competition, but finally cruised to victory in the 200 IM.

His winning time of 1:59.30 put him just over a second ahead of Conor Dwyer (2:00.73).

Venezuela's Carlos Claverie was third in 2:03.04.

Phelps aims for more glories at next year's Rio Olympics after going through the toughest period of his life.

In other finals on Saturday, freestyle star Katie Ledecky won the 800m free in 8:19.16, which was her third gold in Minneapolis.  Endi
