Xinhua, November 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Seven students died after a truck carrying 126 students overturned on Friday in central Botswana, Minister of Health Dorcas Makgato confirmed on Saturday.

Five students died on spot and two died in hospital while other injured students were taken to hospitals for treatment, said Makgato at a joint briefing with the minister of education in the capital city of Gaborone.

The truck transporting Matsha College students who live in remote areas overturned at 2 p.m. local time on Friday near Dutlwe, central Botswana.

Police suspected that the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst.

Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Saturday sent condolence to the families of the victims of the accident.

Ahead of the World Cup qualifying match between Botswana and visiting Mali in the country's second largest city Francistown, a moment of silence was held at the stadium in remembrance of the died in the accident. Enditem
