Road accidents kill 641 in Zambia in Q3 of 2015

Xinhua, November 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Road accidents in Zambia claimed 641 lives in the third quarter of 2015, which saw a year-on-year increase of 133 deaths, police said on Friday.

A total of 8,839 road accidents were recorded during the period with an increase of 573 cases year on year, Zambia Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, the number of injuries rose from 3,368 to 4,053, she added.

Human error was the main cause of the accidents, most of which occurred on Fridays and Saturdays, according to the police spokesperson, who urged all road users to obey traffic rules and regulations.

A total of 1,028 people lost their lives in 16,400 road accidents recorded in the first half of 2015, the police revealed in August.

Zambian authorities seek to halve the number of traffic accidents by 2020. Endi
