1st LD: Two Israelis killed in West Bank shooting attack

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two Israelis were killed in a shooting attack near Hebron in the West Bank on Friday, the Israeli police and military said.

The attack took place on route 60 in the West Bank, near the Jewish settlement of Otniel in the southern Judean Mountains, south of West Bank city of Hebron, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a statement.

Fire was opened at the Israeli car from a passing vehicle and the attackers managed to flee the scene, according to the Israeli police.

Israeli security forces are conducting a manhunt in order to capture the perpetrators, setting up roadblocks in the area, according to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Israeli media outlets reported the victims are a 40-year-old man and his 18-year-old son. Security forces did not confirm these details.

Another Israeli was lightly injured in the attack, according to the Israeli Emergency Services, and was evacuated to the Soroka hospital in the southern town of Be'er Sheva.

Twelve Israelis have died up until Friday's attack in the weeks-long wave of violence between Israelis and Palestinians in deadly stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks perpetrated by Palestinians.

More than 80 Palestinians were killed in recent weeks, in clashes with Israeli security forces during protests, while others were gunned down by security forces and civilian vigilantes after allegedly attempting to carry out attacks. Endit
