1st LD: 17 killed in suicide bombing in Iraq's Baghdad

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 17 people were killed and 32 others injured on Friday in a suicide bomb attack at a funeral in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

The attack occurred when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest among dozens of mourners at a Shiite mosque in Amil district in southwestern Baghdad, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The toll could rise as ambulances and police were evacuating the victims to the nearby hospitals and medical centers, the source said.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years.

Terrorism and violence have left at least 12,282 civilians dead and 23,126 others injured in 2014, making it the deadliest year since the flare-up of sectarian violence in 2006-2007, a United Nations report said. Endit
