Israel summons EU envoy over settlement goods labelling

Israel on Wednesday summoned the European Union (EU) envoy to protest newly-approved European guidelines for labelling products from Israeli settlements.

The move came shortly after the European Commission released its guidelines for labelling Israeli goods originated in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.

Israeli officials condemned the EU decision as "discriminatory" and "anti-Semitic."

The EU has already banned settlement products from getting customs exemptions that are given to goods produced within Israel's legal borders.

Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights during the 1967 Mideast War. It later annexed the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem, in a move never recognized by the international community.

In 2005, Israel withdrew its army from the Gaza Strip, but kept its control over the Palestinian enclave's entries and exists. Endit
