1st LD: Warning shots fired during Kabul demonstration

Xinhua, November 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Warning shots were fired in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday amid a protest near the country's presidential palace.

Thousands of people staged a massive protest Wednesday morning to condemn the barbaric beheading of seven civilians by militants in the southern province of Zabul last week.

Local TV footage showed a group of protesters tried to sneak into the presidential palace compound while the police fired rounds of shots into the air to disperse the demonstrators.

The protesters were carrying coffins of the victims while marching toward the presidential palace.

Local people and officials accused militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) outfit or Daesh for beheading the abductees but the IS has yet to claimed responsibility for the brutalities.

Chanting slogans "Death to Taliban," and "Death to Daesh," the protesters demanded the government bring to justice the perpetrators at the earliest possible time. Enditem
