Eight soldiers killed in clashes in Afghanistan within day

Xinhua, November 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of eight army soldiers died throughout Afghanistan since early Tuesday, said the country's Defense Ministry on Wednesday.

"During military operations and as a result of insurgents' separate attacks, eight Afghan National Army personnel martyred within the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The Afghan security forces' casualties have risen recently as they have assumed the full security charges from NATO and U.S. forces since January this year.

"Several armed insurgents were killed and injured after Afghan security forces conducted joint cleanup operations in different provinces over the same period of time," the statement said, without disclosing the exact number of the casualties on the militants.

The security forces also seized weapons and ammunition in addition to defusing dozen of roadside bombs and landmines during the raids, the statement noted. Enditem
