Danish parliament approves sending radar to fight IS

Xinhua, November 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Danish parliament on Tuesday approved a decision to deliver a radar contribution to help fight against Islamic State (IS).

The parliament voted 94 to 16 in favor of radar contribution as a replacement for the Danish F-16 fighter jets which had been withdrawn from Iraq in October, according to Danish news agency Ritzau.

Denmark will now send a radar contribution accompanied by 30 operators who will help to monitor the airspace over western Iraq and eastern Syria.

"The coalition has long sought a mobile radar that can support air strikes against IS in both Iraq and Syria. It is the task that the Danish radar and the Danish operators must undertake," said Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen, noting Denmark is expanding its efforts to also include Syria.

Apart from the radar contribution, Denmark will continue its current efforts in the training of Iraqi security forces.
