Indonesia asks for U.S. explanation over plane flying into airspace

Xinhua, November 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday asked the United States to clarify the permit of its plane flying into Indonesia's airspace on Monday.

Vice President Kalla made the request after Indonesian jets scrambled to intercept a U.S. plane, the single-engine Cessna plane, and forced the pilot to land at Tarakan air base in Borneo on Monday afternoon.

"Every flight passing through a country's airspace must have a permit. Maybe the Cessna plane has no permit. So there must be clarification," Kalla said at his office.

Vice President Kalla said that the clarification could be undertaken by the U.S. government through its mission office in Jakarta.

The pilot of the light plane admitted that he is Lieutenant Colonel James Patrick Murphy with the U.S. Navy. Endit
