2nd LD: Rebel rocket fire kills 22 in Syria's Latakia

Xinhua, November 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 22 people were killed and 62 others wounded on Tuesday when rebels fired two improvised rockets on residential areas in the coastal city of Latakia, state news agency SANA reported.

The rockets slammed into the residential neighborhood Mazraa near the Latakia University, said SANA, as the state-run TV aired footages of the targeted sites with a big deal of destruction caused by the rockets.

The official report accused the militant groups in the northern countryside of Latakia of firing the rockets, saying the attack is a retaliation to the Syrian troops' progress in northern Latakia.

Latakia holds its significance as it's the hometown of President Bashar al-Assad and contains the base the Russian air force is using to launch airstrikes against the militant positions in several parts of the country. Enditem
