Chinese envoy calls for pushing forward peace process in Somalia

A Chinese envoy to the United Nations Monday called on the international community to push forward peace process in Somalia to maintain peace and stability of the country.
"China calls upon the international community to follow the principles of Somali leadership and Somali ownership," said Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, at a Security Council meeting on the situation in Somalia.
Liu also called for efforts to "actively help the federal government of Somalia improve its governance capability, speed up the institutional building at local level, and promote social reconciliation."
"We hope that all the parties of Somalia will act in the overall interest of the nation's future and its people, properly settling their differences through dialogue and consultation so as to jointly maintain peace and stability of the country," said Liu.
Also on Monday, UN Security Council adopted a resolution setting up UN Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) to succeed the the UN Support Office for AMISOM to reflect the office's actual client base, which, in addition to its principal client AMISOM, also includes UN Assistance Mission in Somalia and Somali National Army.
