Thousands rally in Munich against anti-Islam PEGIDA

Xinhua, November 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thousands of people have participated on Monday evening here in rally against anti-Islam movement Pegida.

According to Munich police, about 3,000 people gathered on the plaza Odeonsplatz to protest against Pegida, which stands for Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the Occident.

Munich mayor Dieter Reiter said at the rally that the city will again and again oppose with all efforts the "radical preachers, diehards and inhuman agitators."

Immediately afterwards, members of Pegida began their demonstration at another place, about 2 km north of Odeonsplatz.

Thousands of people against Pegida rounded the place, disrupting Pegida rally successfully with loud chants and catcalls.

Munich police said that about 100 members of Pegida showed on the scene, and that they had been surrounded by about 3,000 opponents, some of whom sat on the way, so that members of Pegida were not able to make their planned parade. Endit
