1st LD: 10 killed in shooting at cockfight in S. Mexico

Xinhua, November 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ten people were killed in a shooting attack at a cockfight in Mexico's southern state of Guerrero, officials said Monday.

The incident took place late Sunday in the town of Cuajinicuilapa, in the state's Costa Chica region.

A group of armed assailants burst into the cockfight around 9 p.m. local time and began shooting at the crowd, the state Secretariat of Public Security said.

Preliminary reports said the number of fatal victims was six, including a 12-year-old, but four people died from their injuries at the hospital later.

Several others were still hospitalized, according to media reports.

Guerrero Gov. Hector Astudillo lamented the incident, and said police were looking for the assailants.

Drug-related violence plagues Guerrero, where 43 students were abducted, tortured and incinerated in September 2014 by member of a criminal ring. Enditem
