Total 165,000 refugees enter Slovenia so far

Over 165,000 people have entered Slovenia since the latest wave of arrivals began mid-October, as close to 4,400 refugees crossed into Slovenia on Sunday and another 1,000 entered on Monday, state police statistics show.

This weekend was the quietest period since Oct. 17 when Slovenian President Borut Pahor proposed a "national plan of action" focusing on protecting borders and restricting the daily arrivals of migrants.

Refugee reception centers around the country are mostly empty, the local media of Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported on Monday. Only Dobova, the main entry point, and Sentilj, the main exit point into Austria held more than 1,000 people on Monday morning. An additional 600 were in Gornja Radgona.

However, the lull is not an indication of a slowdown in migrant arrivals but rather attributed to a strike by Greek ferry crews. But several media warned Monday that the strike was now over, which would likely lead to a renewed surge before winter set in, the STA report said. Endit
