UN Special Envoy for Syria meet with various Syrian stakeholders in Geneva

The UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura met on Friday in Geneva with His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan to discuss the recent political developments and the humanitarian situation in Syria.
According to a statement issued by the Envoy's office, they also reviewed ideas for future rehabilitation and recovery during the discussion.
In line with the need to reach out all components of the Syrian political landscape, de Mistura also met on Friday in Geneva with a delegation from the Syrian Opposition Coalition led by Khaled Khoja.
"Mr. de Mistura heard Dr. Khoja's views and perspectives on ways to resolve the ongoing conflict in Syria," the statement said.
According to the statement, the Special Envoy will continue to meet with various Syrian stakeholders, including the government and other opposition representatives, in order to ensure Syrian participation and ownership in the process leading to a political solution of the conflict.
"The Syrian people must be involved in the settlement of the conflict," de Mistura said, adding that "what is currently important is the momentum of what was achieved in Vienna, that there is an urgency to have a common understanding on how to end this war, this conflict."
According to the statement, the Special Envoy will brief the UN Security Council next week on the way forward, following the latest Vienna meeting and after holding talks in Damascus, Moscow and Washington. Endit
