Mexican team offline from social networks during U17 World Cup

Xinhua, November 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mexican forward Claudio Zamudio has not posted anything since Oct. 18 in his Twitter account. That day was the debut of Mexico against Argentina at Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Cited by the tournament's official website, Zamudio said "We decided to erase our apps from our mobile phones and tablets to keep an emotional balance. We did not want to be excited if things went good or to suffer if things went bad. I think this strategy has worked very well."

Mexico's results prove the strategy is good. Since the beginning, the Mexican squad was favorite to win the tournament. First, they were unbeaten during the group phase against Australia, Argentina and Germany. Then they eliminated Chile, the host team and then they defeated Ecuador.

Back in Mexico, the U-17 team is creating a lot of talk but Zamudio only hears the echo of that thanks to his family. "Of course we know about the effects we cause, but it is not the same to permanently know about the issue. That is the difference," added number 10 Zamudio, who does not seem to be bothered for being offline.

Zamudio did not score during the group phase but in the qualifying rounds he gave Mexico two key goals. The first one against Chile in Round of 16 and the second against Ecuador in the quarter final match.

"I am confident to know that I can score at defining moments. These goals were precious as a result of a team work. I was not nervous, the team was all right. I knew I was going to score," sais Zamudio, who admires Mexican star Javier "Chicharito" (Little Pea) Hernandez and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the website.

Mexico needs great attitude to defeat Nigeria during the semifinal game. Despite the difficulty, Zamudio said "They are as any other rival. They are fast, but I wonder what would they do when being down in the score. We are prepared, we have 90 minutes to work and win." Endi
