2nd LD Writethru: Passenger train collides with military truck in S. Germany

Xinhua, November 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

A passenger train collided with a U.S. military truck at a railroad crossing late Thursday night in southern German municipality of Freihung, leaving one person dead and 21 others injured, local media Oberpfalznetz.de reported.

According to the local police, the military truck with two people inside was crossing the railroad when it got stuck. The regional train came shortly afterward and collided with the truck.

Instead of an earlier reported explosion, a fire broke out after the collision, and the local police, firefighters and rescue workers launched large-scale rescue operations immediately.

Some heavily injured people have been sent to hospital by helicopters.

The police said that up to 50 people were in the train, without a detailed overview currently.

The affected rail line has been completely closed. Endi
