Political advisors brainstorm on China higher education

Political advisors have urged universities to adopt practical, hands-on subjects, and a more competent faculty to improve the quality of China's higher education.
These suggestions were raised Thursday during a bi-weekly consultation session presided over by Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the top political advisory body.
"Despite measures to improve universities [...] economic and social development, outdated management, and education-quality imbalance remain issues," said a statement released after the meeting.
Other floated ideas included reasonable enrollment quotas and scientific and long-term performance evaluations.
The statement also said higher education institutes in the underdeveloped central and western regions, and agriculture, forestry and teacher-training needed more support. Endi
